What is AgilePM?
Agile Project Management (AgilePM) is a comprehensive, agile framework designed to deliver projects on time, on budget, and to the right quality. Created by the Agile Business Consortium, it offers a structured project management approach that can be easily adapted to any type of project.
AgilePM certification is provided through APMG International, with two levels of qualification available:
Examinations are managed by PeopleCert on behalf of AXELOS.
PRINCE2 Agile is not an independent methodology, but rather an extension of PRINCE2 that has been adapted for use in an agile environment.
AgilePM vs PRINCE2 Agile: A Comparison

Which is best for organisations?
The choice between AgilePM or PRINCE2 Agile for organisations depends on several factors. It is essential to consider the organisation’s current situation and what they want to achieve before making a decision.
It is not easy to determine which one is better as the decision relies on various factors. Organizations need to evaluate their working patterns based on several factors, such as:
- If the organisation is already using the PRINCE2 framework, it is better to adopt PRINCE2 Agile.
- If the organisation already has its agile project management process, it is advisable to evaluate both frameworks and see if either of them provides options to update their existing best practices.
- For those who are new to agile project management, AgilePM is a viable option that has been around since the mid-nineties, and it is relatively quick and cheap.
Organisations may also opt to go for PRINCE2 and PRINCE2 Agile as it is a well-recognised brand globally, and the PRINCE2 Agile guidance is more comprehensive and up-to-date in its coverage of agile, including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean Startup methodologies.
Agile Certifications
There are several Agile certifications available for project managers. The Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Agile certification, PMI-ACP, is one such option.
Based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), PMI-ACP is gaining popularity in the Agile community.
While there are many Agile project management frameworks to choose from, not all of them have independently supervised accreditations.
